The Kam-organ (1854) in Saint Catharine's of Brielle

The Kam organ was built in 1854, however, during the building much older piping material was used namely from  P. de Swart (1582) and from A.Bosch (1677/79). Much of this pipework, being of good quality is still in use in the instrument. In the period 1960-1962 during restauration works, major changes have been made on the instrument. One tried to incorporate  (as was thought to be appropriate in those days) more (neo-)barocque characteristics into the organ. Piping was shifted and shortened, stops were replaced and the VEKA-sliding drawersystem was introduced.

In the years '60, '70 and '80 the formerly introduced changes caused more and more problems. Various solutions were proposed. Finally restauration of the organ was decided after tight co-ordination with the Monument committee and the Dutch Reformed Church Organ committtee during the great church restauration of 1988/89

The situation of 1854 was chosen as a starting point, which was the year of delivery by the Rotterdam organ builder Kam. Moreover it was decided to extend the organ with a self supporting pedal, which was a long cherished wish of many an organist. The work was carried out by organbuilder Pel&Van Leeuwen.

The present disposition (21 stops, divided across 2 keyboards and the pedal) is as follows:
